“What” questions vs “why” questions
“What does this function do” gets you a fact. “Why was it built this way instead of the obvious alternative” gets you the reasoning that actually transfers to new problems.
Asking before you are stuck
Waiting until fully confused to ask a question means losing the thread of what confused you in the first place — asking earlier, even a rougher question, keeps you oriented.
